Edwardian Musings

Francine's world

The Edwardian Era

After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901,  Kind Edward came to the throne as a middle aged monarch.  He had been a playboy prince, but as a king he presided over a new wave of innovation and  technology and he was seen as a good king.  Francine, my eponymous heroine, survives in a world of new possibilities.
Whilst none of these things were invented in Edwardian times, this was the era of the popularisation of many new innovations and new freedoms for women came with the ability of middle class women to work and travel further on their own or with women friends.
The time saw a great push for change, which was culminated in the suffragette movement - but that was later... and for the first time women of all classes united, a dangerous thing!

England is one of the countries that I want to travel to. You have highlighted all of the things that I love about the country. Their history, in particular, is one of their best assets. All throughout history, England has always been a country filled with culture and diversity. I hope to be able to experience their culture on of these days. If I get the chance to, I will make the most out of my stay there in the country of England.

Surprised to be writing  about and researching the Edwardian period. But I must do my characters' will.
