I found this video fascinating, but perhaps the finished look would be for rather more flighty ladies than Francine and Miss Philpott ( getBook.at/FrancineT) However, when in character, to serve their own purposes, I'm sure these cosmetics, which began to be for sale in chemist shops, would be what they would use.

After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, Kind Edward came to the throne as a middle aged monarch. He had been a playboy prince, but as a king he presided over a new wave of innovation and technology and he was seen as a good king. Francine, my eponymous heroine, survives in a world of new possibilities. Whilst none of these things were invented in Edwardian times, this was the era of the popularisation of many new innovations and new freedoms for women came with the ability of middle class women to work and travel further on their own or with women friends. The time saw a great push for change, which was culminated in the suffragette movement - but that was later... and for the first time women of all classes united, a dangerous thing! |
